Meat pies in the oven

For the dough:

  • 700-800 grams of flour
  • 1 tablespoon of dry yeast
  • 2 eggs
  • 50 grams of unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • 1 cup of milk
  • Salt to taste
  • Vegetable oil for greasing the baking tray

For the filling:

  • 400 grams of ground beef
  • 1 onion
  • 3-4 tablespoons of water
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Mix the milk with the dry yeast, salt, and half a cup of flour until smooth. Let it sit in a warm place for 30 minutes. After that, add the eggs, unsalted butter, and softened vegetable oil. Mix everything well and gradually add the sifted flour. Knead the dough until it’s soft and homogeneous, then put it in a bowl greased with vegetable oil. Leave it in a warm place for 2-3 hours to rise, remembering to punch it down 2-3 times during this time.

To make the filling, peel and finely chop the onion, then lightly fry it in vegetable oil. Add the ground beef and fry until golden brown. Add a little water, salt, and black pepper to taste and mix everything well.

Divide the risen dough into small pieces and roll each piece out into a flat circle. Put the meat filling in the center of each circle and pinch the edges together to form a pie. Place the pies on a baking tray greased with vegetable oil, leave them to rest for 15-20 minutes, and then bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius for 30-40 minutes, or until they are golden brown.

Once they’re done, take the pies out of the oven and place them on a plate covered with a paper towel. Cover them with a linen towel and let them sit for 10-15 minutes before serving.

    The recipe is a total mess, in the picture there’s a soft-looking dough, but it turns out hard as a rock.
