Recipe – Pancakes with Bacon for Maslenitsa

Ingredients for Shrovetide Pancakes with Bacon recipe:

  • 1 1/2 cups of oatmeal “Hercules”
  • 1 1/2 cups of milk
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1/3 teaspoon of dry yeast
  • 2 teaspoons of sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 150 grams of bacon
  • 1/2 cup of flour
  • 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • 4 large eggs

Instructions for making Shrovetide Pancakes with Bacon recipe: First, grind the oatmeal into flour using a coffee grinder. Then, pour it into a fairly deep container, pour boiling milk over it and mix well. Leave this mixture overnight. The next day, add one cup of boiling water to the swollen mixture and mix well. Then add sugar and dry yeast. Leave for 15 minutes until the mixture begins to ferment. While the mixture is fermenting, mix the salt with the eggs in a separate container, then add it to the oatmeal mixture. Next, add flour, vegetable oil, and finely chopped bacon. Leave the mixture for 15 minutes. The pancake batter should be thick. After that, heat a skillet with oil and start baking the pancakes on both sides. Serve with fruit on top. Enjoy your meal!
