
Banitsa Ingredients for the recipe:
For the dough:
- 1 cup flour
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 4 tablespoons warm water
- 1 egg (for brushing)
For the filling:
- 500 grams cottage cheese
- 2 eggs
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- Salt (to taste)
- Melted butter (for brushing)
Recipe instructions:
Sift the flour into a bowl and make a well in the center. Add the baking powder, melted butter, and water. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic, then shape it into a ball. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
To make the filling, melt the butter, honey, and sugar in a saucepan until smooth. Beat the cottage cheese and eggs together, then add the mixture to the saucepan. Season with salt and mix everything together.
After 30 minutes, roll out the dough into a thin sheet on a floured surface. Spread melted butter over the surface, leaving a 1.5 cm border around the edges. Spread the cheese filling evenly over the buttered dough.
Roll up the dough into a tight spiral, then place it on a buttered baking sheet. Brush with beaten egg and pinch the end of the roll to seal it. Bake at 180°C for 40 minutes.
Once the banitsa is done, cover it with a damp cloth and leave it to cool for 10 minutes. Serve and enjoy!
