- Peel and slice the potatoes to 4mm thickness.
- Grease a baking dish or a high-sided baking tray with softened butter and finely chopped garlic.
- Arrange the potatoes in the dish, and sprinkle a portion of grated cheese evenly over them.
- Whisk the egg with milk, salt, and pepper to taste, and pour over the potatoes and cheese.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 160°C for 1 hour.
- Five to ten minutes before the end of baking, sprinkle the remaining grated cheese on top of the potatoes.
